“Music that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step…“

The Hungry Williams is de Amerikaanse r’n’r/ jump band rond frontdame Kelli Gonzalez. De groep werd bijeen getroept door drummer en bandleider John Carr. Zijn volgelingen zijn verder gitarist Joe Vent, toetsenist Jack Stewart en bassist Mike Sieger. De saxofonisten zijn Troy Leisemann (tenor), Julia Bustle (bariton) & Bob Jennings (bariton).

Hun laatste album ‘Brand New Thing’ is niet zo nieuw want het verscheen in het voorbije jaar bij Rochelle Records. Het is een album met, naast één original van Kelli Gonzalez (“Everybody Loves Me (Why Don't You?)”) een album met vooral swingende covers. Composities van bekende Koko-Mojo bekenden als Dave Bartholomew (die veel met Fats Dominee samenwerkte): “Hook Line and Sinker” / “Go on Fool”,Paul Gayten: “For You My Love”,het duo Edwin Bocage & Eddie Bo: “Where's My Baby?” en van Wyona Carr: “It's Raining Outside”. Van de gitarist uit de band Joe Vent doen ze “Stick a Pin in the Voodoo Doll” en David Williams’ klassieker “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On” mag hier ook niet ontbreken. Ruth Brown zong het nummer van E. Nugetre al aanvang jaren 1950 en zij doen het hier over: “Wild Wild Young Men” en van James Crawford Jr. is “No More Heartaches” en Jessie Hill schreef “Whip It on Me”.

R'n’R lijkt soms wat alledaags en vanzelfsprekend, maar absoluut niet als The Hungry Williams en Kelli Gonzalez er zich mee gaan moeien!...
